Whitetails to Honor Boney, O'Brien at Banquet
CANFIELD, Ohio -- WYTV-33 news anchor Stan Boney and state Rep. Sean O'Brien (D-63 Hubbard) will be honored at the Mahoning Valley chapter of Whitetails Unlimited's annual Fundraising Banquet and Wild Game Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 18. They will be recognized as Man of the Year and Legislator of the Year, respectively.
The dinner will be held in McMahon Hall at the Mill Creek Metroparks Farm.
Boney's recognition results from his dedication to environmental and natural resources-related news casting, a spokesman for Whitetails says. A longtime meteorologist at WYTV-33 in Youngstown, Boney gave up his weather job in 2011 when he was named anchor of 33 News at 5:30, 6, and 11 p.m. He joined WYTV in 1979 as a weekend sports anchor before taking over weather duties in 1981, and then became co-anchor in 2008. He hosted the YSU Academic Challenge high school quiz program between 2002 and 2012.
One of Boney’s goals is to visit as many National Parks as he can. Committed to the community, he volunteers with many local charities, including Catholic Charities of the Youngstown Diocese and The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.
O’Brien will be recognized for his work on the Agriculture and Natural Resources committee in the lower house and helping to lead the way in promoting oil and natural gas development in the state. O’Brien is serving his second term representing southeastern Trumbull County. His committee assignments include Agriculture and Natural Resources, Insurance, and Public Utilities. Before his election to the Ohio House, O’Brien was a Trumbull County assistant prosecutor 12 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Edinboro University and a juris doctorate from University of Akron Law School.
Proceeds from the dinner will go toward projects that support Whitetails Unlimited’s mission in the Valley such as youth programs. The social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 with membership and a gun drawing entry, or $50 for dinner and drinks only. Tickets for spouses and children 15 and under are $50. Deadline is Saturday. They will not be sold at the door. To order tickets, call Rob Palowitz, PALO Creative, 330 599 4140 or Dennis Malloy at 330 507 9489.
