Westinghouse CEO to Speak at Grove City College
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College will host Dr. Ardis S. Candris, president and CEO of Westinghouse Electric Co., as the featured speaker for the 2012 Albert A. Hopeman Jr. Memorial Lecture in Science, Engineering and Mathematics. The April 12 presentation is free and open to the public.
His presentation, titled “Nuclear Energy: Is there a future after Fukushima?,” will begin at 7 p.m. in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters on the campus.
Candris began his career in 1975 as a senior engineer in the former Advanced Reactor Division and held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in the company before serving as senior vice president of the Nuclear Fuel business unit and the Nuclear Services business unit, prior to becoming the company’s president and CEO in July 2008.
He is a member of the boards of trustees for Carnegie Mellon University, Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. Candris also serves on the advisory board of the Carnegie Institute of Technology and is a member of the Nuclear Energy Institute and the World Nuclear Association boards of directors. He earned a B.A. from Transylvania University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
The annual Albert A. Hopeman Jr. Memorial Lecture in Science, Engineering and Mathematics is sponsored by the Grove City College Alumni Association and named in honor and memory of Albert A. Hopeman Jr., chairman of the Grove City College Board of Trustees from 1972 to 1998.
