TOMS Founder to Speak Oct. 7 at Stambaugh
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS and New York Times best-selling author, will be the featured speaker Oct. 7 at Youngstown State University’s Paul J. and Marguerite K. Thomas Colloquium.
Mycoskie founded TOMS after becoming aware of the hardships faced by children without shoes while competing along with his sister in CBS’ The Amazing Race. TOMS’ business model -- to donate a pair of shoes to children in need for each one purchased -- has brought him numerous accolades. In 2011 he applied the model to eyewear, and since then saved or restored eyesight to more than 150,000 people in need.
At the Clinton Global Initiative University plenary session, President Bill Clinton introduced Blake to the audience as “one of the most interesting entrepreneurs” he had ever met, and TOMS was featured in the Bill Gates Time Magazine article “How to Fix Capitalism.” In 2011 Blake was included on Fortune Magazine’s “40 Under 40” list, recognizing him as one of the top young businessmen in the world.
