TEDxYoungstown Sets Jan. 23, Seeks Speakers
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Open auditions will take place June 17 for the second TEDxYoungstown event, which will take place Jan. 23 at Bliss Hall’s Ford Theater on the Youngstown State University campus.
The inaugural TEDxYoungstown was held Jan. 23 of this year and featured 18 speakers including Jeff Hoffman, former CEO of Priceline.com.
“The feedback received from the first year event was outstanding. Most attendees could not say enough good things about the event and the speakers,” said Bob McGovern, a member of the TEDxYoungstown team and an employee with FirstEnergy.
Over the next few months committee members will seek event sponsors and speakers, and prepare to sell tickets.
“We learned a lot in our first year hosting a TEDx event. The entire committee is excited to begin a second TED-like event to local TED fans,” said Lori Shandor, curator for TEDxYoungstown and gift planning/campaign director at Park Vista of Youngstown.
As plans unfold, information will be updated on the TEDxYoungstown.com website and on social media pages, Shandor said.
Individuals who believe they have an “Idea Worth Spreading” are invited to attend the open auditions, which will take place 6-8 p.m. June 17 at the Youngstown Business Incubator downtown. Speakers will be evaluated on a first-some, first-serve basis by a panel made of committee members and past TEDxYoungstown speakers. Further details on auditions are available at the TEDxYoungstown site.
Speakers selected from the June 17 open auditions as well as those curated by the YoungstownTEDx team will appear on stage at the Jan. 27 event.
