Sweeney Donates to Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army
BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC wrote a check for $12,900 to The Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown and a second for $8,900 to the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign from Operation Santa Claus.
The presentation of the checks, held Wednesday at the dealership here, resulted from the Operation Santa Claus project Sweeney created to provide support for children and families in need. "We like to think we are engaged and giving back to the community whenever we can," said Alexa Sweeney Blackann.
Sweeney Chevrolet pledged to donate $50 to the Boys & Girls Club for every new Chevy sold from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31. And for every new GMC or Buick sold at Sweeney, the dealership pledged to donate $50 to the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.
The Boys & Girls Club has "such a great reputation in the community in all they do helping underprivileged kids," said Sweeney-Blackann. "We are so excited to help them out."
Ruthie King, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club, expressed her gratitude to the Sweeney dealerships as well as their customers. "I'd like to thank the owners who bought Chevrolets that made this happen for us,” King said. “Now that they drive around in a safe comfortable car, they have also provided the opportunity for our kids to be at a safe haven at the Boys & Girls Club."
Added Robert Mastriana, chairman of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign, "Because the needs have been so great, and we haven't been able to keep up the pace with the economy the way it is, the generosity of companies like Sweeney and others have been a real blessing to our community.”
