State OKs 2015 Racing Dates for Hollywood Gaming
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio State Racing Commission has approved 100 dates for live thoroughbred racing next year at the newly opened Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course.
The commission approved the 2015 racing permits and dates for the Austintown track and Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, Penn National Gaming Inc., which operates both sites, announced Thursday.
“We’re delighted to offer 75 days of live harness racing at our 5/8th-mile Dayton racetrack and 100 days of live thoroughbred racing at our 1-mile Mahoning Valley track in Austintown,” said Mark Loewe, vice president of Ohio racing operations for Penn National. “We appreciate the efforts of the racing commission and its staff and our horsemen to work together to coordinate racing dates with our neighboring tracks in Northeast Ohio and in Southwest and Central Ohio. Ohio race fans will now enjoy virtually year-round live racing.”
Thoroughbred racing will begin Nov. 24 at the Austintown track this year and continue through Dec. 30. In 2015, the live racing season will begin Jan. 5 and continue through April 25. Racing will then resume Oct. 30 and conclude for the year Dec. 29. Live racing generally will be held each week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays with a 12:45 p.m. post time.
The racino opened in September with 850 video lottery terminals. Patrons can wager every day on simulcast races at tracks throughout North America.
