Stambaugh Auditorium to Dedicate Formal Garden Thursday
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Dedication of the recently renovated formal garden outside Stambaugh Auditorium is set for 9 a.m. Thursday. The renovation is a gift from the Stambaugh Pillars and features extended capabilities for small outdoor concerts, dinner receptions, cocktail receptions and weddings.
Among the updated amenities are new stone walkways, new plantings and new electrical service. Ambient lighting has been added to the original working fountain, in place since 1926, that remains the centerpiece of the garden.
Local officeholders, members of the Stambaugh Pillars and Stambaugh Auditorium Board of Trustees and the Stambaugh Auditorium administrative staff are scheduled to attend the dedication, says Chris Lewis, director of operations.
The purpose of the Stambaugh Pillars is to develop and perpetuate an interest in Stambaugh Auditorium, to recruit members and to provide financial and other support to the auditorium by sponsoring fundraising activities and events.
Stambaugh Auditorium is a nonprofit public auditorium that opened in 1926 through the gift of Youngstown-area businessman Henry H. Stambaugh. The centerpiece of the complex is the concert hall, which can seat 2,553 and is renowned for its near perfect acoustics. The auditorium also features a 9,700-square-foot ballroom, a recital hall (The Anne Christman Memorial Hall), and a formal garden at the southern end of the building.
