Smithsonian Exhibits ‘Journey Stories’ at Labor Museum
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- “Journey Stories,” a traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution, opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor.
The show, created by the Smithsonian as part of its Museums on Main Street Program in conjunction with the Federation of State Humanities Councils, will run through Dec. 31.
Through stories how how Americans came here and then dispersed throughout the United States, the exhibit offers a different lens on American history, from the first to arrive in the 1500s and 1600s to its newest citizens. “Journey Stories” examines the modes of transportation – ocean-going ships, canal boats and steamboats, horses, mules, wagons, trains, cars and aircraft.
The exhibition incorporates graphics, objects, oral histories and other resources to highlight themes such as the search for freedom, adventure and even recreation.
