Olsavsky Jaminet Architects Earns Energy Star Award
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The architectural firm of Olsavsky Jaminet has been awarded two certificates of achievement from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program. The awards are for the firm’s design of two buildings for the Austintown school system: the Austintown K-2 elementary school and the Austintown 3-5 elementary school.
Olsavsky Jaminet Architects designed the schools under the standards of the U.S. Green Building Council to achieve LEED certification and to achieve more than 40% savings in energy use as part of the school district’s effort to reach its sustainability goals. The district’s green distinctions include use of alternative fuels s for transportation.
The certificates read, “The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognizes Olsavsky Jaminet Architects Inc. for designing energy-efficient buildings to help prevent greenhouse gas emissions and create a sustainable environment for future generations.”
According to the Energy Star website, on average, the buildings it certifies use 35% less energy and cause 35% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than similar buildings.
As of the end of 2012, American families and businesses saved more than $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions because of help from Energy Star.
