Ohio Chautauqua Comes to Warren June 24
WARREN, Ohio -- Ohio Chautauqua, a five-day event that combines presentations of living history, education, music and theater, will come here June 24 to 28.
Ohio Chautauqua is free and open to the public.
Evening activities are scheduled for under a red-and-white striped tent on the grounds near the Kinsman House along Mahoning Avenue in the downtown. Live local music will begin at 6:30 p.m. each night. At 7:30 p.m., a scholar portrays a historical figure and delivers a monologue that reflects his significance. Afterward, the audience can ask questions of the performer.
Daytime workshops to provide additional insight into the figures depicted will be held each day at the Main Branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. Youth workshops are scheduled for 11 a.m. and adult workshops for 2 p.m.
The schedule for the daytime workshops and evening performances follows.
June 24:
- 11 a.m. Youth workshop: "Eyes to the West," with Dianne Moran.
- 2 p.m. Adult workshop: "Titanic Surprises," with Debra Conner.
- 7:30 p.m. 1849er J.G. Bruff, portrayed by Hank Fincken.
June 25:
- 11 a.m. Youth workshop: "Picturing Nature," with Kevin Radaker.
- 2 p.m. Adult workshop: "Dr. King's Last Great Dream," with Marvin Jefferson.
- 7:30 p.m. Indian captive Olive Anne Oatman, portrayed by Moran.
June 26:
- 11 a.m. Youth workshop: "Carried Away," with Conner.
- 2 p.m. Adult workshop: "The California Trail," with Fincken.
- 7:30 p.m. Writer and philosopher Henry David Thoreau, portrayed by Radaker.
June 27:
- 11 a.m. Youth workshop: "The Power of the Written Word," with Jefferson.
- 2 p.m. Adult workshop: "Thoreau's Passion for the Wild," with Radaker.
- 7:30 p.m. Titanic survivor Edith Russell, portrayed by Conner.
June 28:
- 11 a.m. Youth workshop: "Gold Fever," with Fincken.
- 2 p.m. Adult workshop: "A Profound Destiny," with Moran.
- 7:30 p.m. Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King Jr., portrayed by Jefferson.
