Mycap Gets $519K Grant for Weatherization Aid
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (Mycap) has received a $519,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to help residents of Mahoning County pay their energy bills or make their residences more energy-efficient, Al Stabilito announced Tuesday.
Stabilito is the director of communications and community outreach at Mycap.
Residents of Mahoning County who qualify will receive financial help from Energy’s Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) between July 1 and June 30, 2014. Goal of the program is “to increase the energy efficiency of dwellings owned or occupied by income-eligible Ohioans, reduce household energy expenditures and improve individuals’ health and safety,” Stabilito said.
There is no cost to participate in the program for Ohio residents whose annual household income meets federal poverty guidelines. Any individual whose income falls within those guidelines also may apply for services under the weatherization assistance program.
Among improvements that the Department of Energy will pay for are safety inspection, furnace tune-up or repair and the insulation of attics, sidewalls, heating ducts and water tanks and reduction of air leakage from major sources.
To find out eligibility in the weatherization program, call the Mycap office in Youngstown at 330 747 7921 or its office in Sebring at 33- 938 6166.
