MVHS Camp: 10,000 Years of History in 5 Days
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- My Town, Your Town, Youngstown Summer Day Camp offers students a chance to explore local history at its source. The five-day camp, held this year from July 7 to 11, is sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and features field trips to several historic sites and landmarks.
The camp focuses on Youngstown yesterday, today and tomorrow with activities to spark creativity and form a connection to the past and its role in the future.
Campers will visit Lanterman’s Mill at Mill Creek MetroParks, The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, The Arms Family Museum, OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Center for Science & Technology, the DeYor Performing Arts Center, WFMJ-TV and other key sites in downtown Youngstown, said Leann Rich, MVHS manager of education and external relations. Several of these visits will offer campers a behind-the-scenes look.
Throughout the week, campers will create an art project of their choice that highlights their favorite aspect of local history. Campers will present those projects at the close of camp July 11.
The camp will be held at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center. Each day begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m., but early drop-off and late pick-up is available, Rich said.
