Motion Picture Shoot in Cleveland Needs Extras
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Pssst. Wanna be in a movie? More than 1,200 extras will be used in the production of "Draft Day" that will be shot almost entirely in Ohio. Most of the action will take place in Cleveland.
Reportedly, the film about professional football will be directed by Ivan Reitman and star Kevin Costner as general manager of the Cleveland Browns, a man who struggles to acquire the No. 1 draft pick for his team. “This is exciting news for the state of Ohio, especially for Cleveland where most of the action is taking place,” says David Zak, business services director for the Ohio Development Services Agency. “This news isn’t just great for Cleveland, but for all of the nearby businesses who will soon benefit from this project.”
The shoot should take 100 days or so, and the crew will need some help from the nearby public. When all the lines have been recited and filming done, some $1 million will have been spent in Ohio, Zak says, thanks to this movie.
The Ohio Film Office has secured several films shot in the Buckeye State, bringing the number of films, television series and commercials assisted by the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit to 47 since the program began in fiscal 2010. To date, the Ohio Film Office has provided more than $58 million in tax credits to Ohio productions, which have employed more than 20,000 Ohioans and contributed nearly $205 million to the state economy.
To qualify for the tax credit, the production companies must show reviewable progress to the Ohio Film Office within 90 days of receiving the notification letter. In addition, they receive the tax credit only upon the completion of production.
