International Institute Fund Awards $29,000 in Grants
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The International Institute Fund yesterday awarded $29,000 in grants to five local organizations.
The fund, a component of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, describes its mission as promoting the interests and understanding of foreign-born people.
“This is important for the continuance of the diverse social fabric of our community,” said Ana Torres, president of the International Institute Fund. “Grants are awarded once a year and we encourage organizations that support the mission of the foundation to apply.”
The 2014 grants awarded include:
- The English Center, $20,000 to be used for operating costs and the expansion and relocation of the center.
- Youngstown State University Festival of the Arts- Festival of Nations, $3,000 for the Festival of Nations, which provides patrons an opportunity to personally interact with representatives of numerous ethnic cultures during the event.
- Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana (OCCHA), $3,000 for the multi-level practical English for speakers of other languages program.
- Beatitude House- The Potter’s Wheel, $2,000 for the summer program for women and children.
- YWCA of Youngstown, $1,000 for the Stand Against Racism event.
