Information, Recruitment Workshop Set for May 14
SHARON, Pa. -- The Shenango Valley & Lawrence County Chambers of Commerce are partnering with Youngstown State University and other area educational institutions to convene an information and recruitment workshop May 14, the chambers announced Monday.
The workshop is scheduled at the Park Inn by Radisson, West Middlesex, Pa., with sign-in beginning at 7:30 a.m. The presentations are set to run from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
Employers are invited to attend the complimentary breakfast event to learn more about the planning of internship/co-op programs that emphasize careers related to manufacturing.
The information sessions are made possible by two grants recently received by the YSU College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The grants are the Oh-Penn Pathways to Competitiveness Manufacturing Internship Clearinghouse and the state of Ohio Program for internships and co-ops in advanced manufacturing.
YSU's STEM College is partnering with Butler County Community College, Choffin Career Center, Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, Eastern Gateway Community College, Kent State University Trumbull Campus, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Penn State University-Shenango,Trumbull County Career & Technical Center and Thiel College. Each of the educational institutions has students from various disciplines available for internships/co-ops in areas such as welding, engineering, computer technology and business.
An explanation of the programs and the financial assistance available to employers and students will be explained. In addition, a representative from the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education will give a presentation on effective internship/co-op programs.
