Hermitage Firm Places Second in Shell Competition
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Anderal Technologies took second place in Shell Oil's "Future Energy" event in New York City, Ronald Anderson, company president, announced Thursday.
Anderal is a Ben Franklin Technology Partners- supported venture and portfolio startup company tenant in the eCenter@LindenPointe Technology Incubator here.
Anderal representatives presented their company's Electrically Assisted Manufacturing technology to a panel of angel investors, venture capital groups and technology firms at the competition. Of the 169 applications, Shell invited only eight finalists to present on topics related to new-energy technologies.
“This truly qualifies as one of the most humbling experiences of my life,” Anderson said in a prepared statement. “Dr. John Roth, the inventor of the technology and professor at Penn State Erie-the Behrend College, deserves all the credit for developing what is truly a disruptive technology in the world of metal forming.”
Added James Kosco, director for the northwestern region of Ben Franklin, "When I saw the notice about this competition, I immediately thought that Anderal, with Dr. Roth’s technology, would make a very competitive presentation. Their innovation is a game changer in that it enables the successful forming of brittle materials such as titanium and magnesium.”
Electrically Assisted Manufacturing is the process of applying direct current in a pulsed format to ultra-high-strength steels. Using low voltage and high amperage to form and shape the steel effectively reduces the time and energy consumed in bending, stamping, and forging processes, Anderson explained.
“Anderal Technologies is commercializing a technology that has the potential to be a game changer in multiple industries," noted Yvonne English, eCenter executive director. "Their success at this high-level competition only goes to support that assertion.”
