Hearing Set for Thursday on Ellsworth Township Landfill
NORTH JACKSON, Ohio -- Remediation plans for the former Hilltop landfill in Ellsworth Township, also known as the Old Toth Landfill, will be the subject of a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Thursday hosted by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
The information session and public hearing will be at the Ellsworth Township Hall on West Akron-Canfield Road.
The hearing will provide residents with an opportunity to ask questions and submit comments concerning the Ohio EPA’s preferred remediation plan for the 20-acre property.
If approved, the agency would require:
- Landfill cover improvements.
- Leachate collection system enhancements.
- Long-term operation and maintenance work.
- Groundwater monitoring.
- Environmental covenants that define the limits on activity and use.
Comments concerning the preferred plan may be presented at the public hearing or submitted in writing to Ohio EPA’s Northeast District Office, attention: Sheila Abraham, 2110 East Aurora Road, Twinsburg, Ohio 44087.
The public comment period ends June 6. All comments submitted by that date will be considered before the agency takes final action. The plan and related documents can be obtained at the Canfield Public Library in Canfield, Ohio.
