HDH Golf Group Wins $22,000 for Strimbu Fund
BROOKFIELD, Ohio -- A team sponsored by the HDH Group Inc., an insurance group headquartered in Pittsburgh, placed seventh in a golf tournament last fall, winning a prize of $22,000 they directed to the Strimbu Memorial Fund
Participating in the 14th annual Chubb Charity Challenge sponsored by Chubb Group of Insurance Companies were Jim Grasso from Liberty Steel, Joe Totten and Jim Kopec from the HDH Group, Jeff Dziki from Forney and Melissa Scheffler from the Chubb Group. They were one of 45 teams from North America who competed for the charity of their choice last Nov. 11 and 12 at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Coast, Calif.
This year, the Strimbu Memorial Fund will mark its 25th anniversary with a barbeque May 7 at the Yankee Lake Ballroom. There it will anounce the recipients of 12 college scholarships of $2,500 and one of $25,000 to local high school seniors who planĀ to further their education. Leadership and self-reliance, which Nick Strimbu Jr. demonstrated during his life, are the two most important criteria required to receive one of these scholarships.
The fund was founded in 1990 to honor Strimbu. Since 1991, it has contributed to the Newspapers in Education program that benefits all local school districts, United Way annual campaigns, area economic development organizations, and the Shenango Valley Foundation Unrestricted Fund. Since 1991, the fund has disbursed more than $1.9 million to these organizations and individuals.
