Handel’s Named 'Champion for Our Valley’s Children'
BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley will present Handel’s Ice Cream with its 2014 “Champion for Our Valley’s Children” award at the fourth annual Champions for Our Valley’s Children dinner at 5:30 p.m. May 13. Eleven individuals and organizations will be honored with a “Children’s Advocate Award.”
The dinner will be held at The Lake Club in Poland.
“Champions” will highlight Akron Children’s progress in the Mahoning Valley and recognize those who have helped to make it possible, including donors, volunteers, staff and community partners, JoAnn Strock, the director of development at the hospital, says. “In 2013, 2,139 donors contributed more than $3 million to support our local programs and services,” Stock says. “Since the opening of the Beeghly campus in Boardman in 2008, more than $10.4 million has been donated to support the mission of Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley.”
At the Champions for our Valley’s Children event, special recognition will be accorded Handel’s Ice Cream for its “outstanding support and generosity through the signature Koins for Kids campaign,” Strock says. During the past five years, Koins for Kids has raised nearly $175,000 for hospital Mahoning Valley programs and services.
The Children's Advocate Award was begun to recognize individuals and organizations throughout the Mahoning Valley who exhibit the spirit of caring and work to make a difference in the lives of children in the communities the hospital services. The recipients are Caring Kids Club, Daybreak Youth Crisis Shelter, Bob and Chuck Eddy, The Junior League of Youngstown, Making Kids Count, Ryan Pastore, Phyllis Ricchiuti, James Sisek, Wendy Szakacs and The Youngstown Symphony Society.
