Green Youngstown Wins Awards for Beautification Efforts
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Green Youngstown received the Keep America Beautiful President’s Circle Award during the recent Keep America Beautiful’s 2014 National Conference. The award recognizes exemplary performance by certified affiliates of the national nonprofit in building and sustaining vibrant communities.
In addition, Green Youngstown was awarded an in-kind donation of a garden tiller and other gardening tools from a Keep America Beautiful national sponsor, Troy-Bilt Lawn and Garden Equipment, Jennifer Jones, program coordinator, reported. Green Youngstown is a division of the city’s Department of Public Works established in cooperation with the Mahoning County Solid Waste Management District.
“One of Keep America Beautiful’s most effective tools is the work of our grassroots network of affiliate organizations, which has an impact on millions of Americans each year,” said Jennifer John, president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful. “Our affiliates are providing real solutions to local problems caused by litter, graffiti, illegal dumping and other community blight by engaging volunteers of all ages in its effort to create a vibrant community.”
Green Youngstown plans to expand its support of community improvement by unveiling in May a trailer filled with tools that can be borrowed by anyone hosting a community greening project in Youngstown. "This award will allow us to spend our grant resources on other items, such as a generator or wood chipper to better assist in major cleanups and beautification projects in Youngstown,” Jones said.
