Granddaughter to Screen Documentary on Warners Bros.
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Cass Warner Sperling, granddaughter of the founder of the Warner Bros. movie studio, will address the Mahoning Valley Historical Society at the Tyler History Center here at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 26.
After a brief talk, Warner Sperling will screen her award-winning 2008 documentary “The Brothers Warner."
A question-and-answer session will follow, says Leann Rich, manager of education and external relations at the society.
“The Brothers Warner” is the intimate portrait and saga of the four Hollywood pioneers: the strategic general, Harry Warner; honest Abe; visionary Sam and the volatile Jack. It is the story of an immigrant family who rose from poverty and, despite personal tragedies, persevered to create a major studio,” says Warner Sperling.
She credits the studio with a social conscience studio and says her documentary is the culmination of 30 years of research that shows the collection of family memorabilia, never-before-seen photos, speeches and home movies.
Warner Sperling, a third-generation filmmaker, is president of Warner Sisters, an independent film and television production company. Her grandfather Harry Warner was the first president and one of the founders of Warner Bros. studio. Her father was writer/producer Milton Sperling, who was nominated twice for an Academy Award.
Tickets are $40 for the meet and greet, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and includes hors d’oeuvres and reserved seating for the presentation. Contact the society 330 743 2589 for reservations. Tickets for the screening are $10 per person and can be purchased in advance.
