'Go Pink Day' Tuesday at Panera Bread Cafes
WARREN, Ohio -- In recognition of breast cancer awareness month Covelli Enterprises and Panera Bread are hosting the annual Go Pink Day Tuesday. On that day, all six Mahoning Valley Panera Bread bakery-cafes will donate 100% of the proceeds from Pink Ribbon Bagel sales to the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center.
Last year, Go Pink resulted in 16,500 bagels sold and more than $14,000 raised for Susan G. Komen for the Cure. This year, the event will benefit the new center through the Pink Ribbon Classic of the Zeta Tau Alpha chapter at Youngstown State University.
Throughout the rest of October, Panera Bread cafes will continue to donate 10% of the proceeds to the center from each Pink Ribbon bagel in support of Joanie’s Promise, a fund that will help make the services of the center accessible to all regardless of their ability to pay.
“It is through events like the Panerathon and the Go Pink bagel sales that we get closer to achieving the center’s primary goal: to decrease the breast cancer mortality rate in our own geographical area,” said Juliane Dulay of the center. “These events help us develop programs like Joanie’s Promise to give all women in the Valley access to the advanced technology and interdisciplinary team approach offered by the center.”
The center is also the recipient of funds from the Panerathon, the Mahoning Valley’s largest community fundraising event. In August, the 2012 Panerathon hosted more than 6,000 people and raised more than $200,000 for the Joanie’s Promise Fund.
Covelli Enterprises operates more than 200 bakery-cafés in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Florida and Toronto, Canada. Covelli Enterprises is the largest franchisee of Panera LLC.
