Friends of Poland Forest Host Photo Contest
POLAND, Ohio -- "The Beauty of the Woods,” an inaugural photography competition organized by the Friends of Poland Forest, kicks off with a free workshop June 2. Bill Lewis, a Vindicator photographer, will share tips for getting great nature photos at 2 p.m. in The Gallery at Wittenauers’ here.
Gordon Longmuir, president of Friends, said the purpose of the contest is to spotlight one of Poland village's greatest treasures and promote membership in the Friends of Poland Forest. All entrants will receive a one-year membership in the organization.
The contest is for amateurs in three age divisions: Children 12 and younger, teenagers and adults 20 and older. Awards will be given to the top photo in each division, plus one Best in Show. Winners in each age group will receive a $25 gift certificate from YM Camera, and the Best in Show will receive a gift certificate for framing from Frameworks.
Photos must be taken within Poland Municipal Forest and must focus on nature. Contest rules and entry forms will be available in The Café at Wittenauers', Poland Village Hall, in the kiosks at the entrances to the forest and at various Poland businesses. Entry fee is $5 per person.
Matted prints will be accepted from Aug. 3 through 11 at The Café at Wittenauers' and will be displayed in The Gallery at Wittenauers’ Sept. 6 through 15. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. Sept. 15.
