Flynn’s Tire & Auto Gets 'Top Shop' Award
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- Tire Review Magazine has named Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service the "top shop" in North America. The award is based on customer service and retention, training and education, merchandising and promotion, professional standards and conduct, innovation, appearance, business management, community involvement and business growth.
Presented by Ammco/Coats, the award honors the "best of the best" independent tire dealers in the United States and Canada, according to Jim Smith, magazine editor. "What could be better than having one of the most respected independent dealers in the U.S. -- and one that is celebrating its 50th anniversary -- as our eighth winner," he said. "Congratulations to our deserving winner Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service."
“Receiving this prestigious award during the year of our 50th anniversary gives us all the more reason to celebrate," said Joe Flynn III, president of Flynn's Tire Group. "This award is something that we all can be proud of because it reflects what we do every day to make our customers No. 1 with us. I’m sure that my father and grandfather, who started the business back in 1964, are smiling down on us.”
On Oct. 5, 1964, John Flynn Sr., sons Joe Flynn and R.P. Flynn and Ted Bilak started what is now known as Flynn’s Tire Group. At that time they named the company Urra Tire Co., Flynn said, adding that the name was chosen because it came Gaelic, an old Irish language that reflected their ethnic background. They also selected it because Urra meant dependable, and they felt that in order to be successful customers needed to feel that you were dependable.
Flynn’s first store was located in downtown Sharon, Pa., in a rented building that had no indoor facilities to work on cars.
