Film Based on YSU Instructor's Novel to Debut Friday
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- “Jamie Marks is Dead,” the motion picture based on the novel One for Sorrow by Chris Barzak, a Youngstown State University assistant professor of English, will premiere in 10 major cities Friday, including the Capitol Theater in Cleveland. The movie stars Liv Tyler, Judy Greer, Morgan Saylor, Cameron Monaghan and Madisen Beaty.
The movie will also be shown in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Houston, Minneapolis, Phoenix, San Francisco and Tampa. Barzak will do a question-and-answer session following the 7:20 p.m. showing in Cleveland and participate in another Q&A after the 4:10 p.m. showing on Sunday.
Barzak, a native of Johnston, earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English from YSU and joined the faculty full-time in 2008. Published by Bantam Books in fall 2007, One for Sorrow, Barzak’s first novel, won the Crawford Award for Best First Fantasy.
The film, which made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, also will be available on the same date as the theatrical release on various video on demand platforms, such as Amazon.com, Hulu.com, iTunes and YouTube. When the movie is released, links will be available here for the video streaming platforms.
