FAA Awards $449K for Taxi Lane at Regional Airport
WASHINGTON --The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport a grant of $448,767 to build a 365-foot taxi lane to provide access to an aircraft hangar under construction and meet federal design standards, the office of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan announced today.
The funding will also provide a windcone on Runway 14 to improve safety and provide pilots with “critical airfield information,” the FAA said.
“This is great news for the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport,” Ryan, D-13 Ohio, said in a prepared statement, “and I am always going to be supportive of federal investments at the airport. I congratulate Dan Dickten, the director of aviation at the airport and the Western Reserve Port Authority for their work in securing this grant.”
In a phone interview, Dickten said the FAA grant is part of its annual $1 million allotment to the airport and that planning began July 10 on the taxi lane. Actual construction will get underway “by mid-August,” he said
The taxi lane will connect the second T-hangar, under construction, being financed by bonds, to a taxiway. The first T-hangar at the entrance to the airport is complete and a third will be built later.
Because he had worked on the grant application, Dickten said he was not surprised by the news but still described himself as “excited” at the grant that furthers the progress the airport makes.
