Eastern Gateway Student Project Helps Beatitude House
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Eastern Gateway Community College students in a psychology class at its Valley Center are taking on two service learning projects as part of their class assignments. This fall, they are collecting personal supplies for residents of the Beatitude House and sponsoring Project HELP Nov. 9.
The HPAC (Health Provisions Affinity Community) Benefit for Beatitude House is collecting donations of paper and household items, cleaning supplies and personal-care items through Nov. 29. Donation boxes have been placed throughout the Valley Center.
Project HELP is set for 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 9 in the main corridor at the Valley Center. Information will be provided about domestic violence, nutrition, education, child care, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health counseling and food banks. It is open to the public.
The psychology students and others are working through HPAC guided by Jaime Shuster, a social sciences instructor. HPAC, he noted, is a program for anyone interested in entering a health profession and gives students the opportunity to design and engage in their own health-related interests as they the community.
