Duncan Wins 'Best' at Butler’s Area Artists Exhibit
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Christopher Duncan of Beloit has won the Best-in-Show in the 76th Area Artists Annual Exhibition at The Butler Institute of American Art. The exhibit runs throgh Feb. 23.
Works by 114 artists in all media who live in the five-county region were judged.
Al Bright, retired professor of art history at Youngstown State University, served as exhibition juror. Of the 216 entries, Bright selected 140 works from 102 artists, eight of whom are from Pennsylvania.
Winners of top prizes are Duncan for Best-in-Show; Gary Taneri, Warren, first prize; Sean Butler, Canfield, second prize; and William Danielson, Youngstown, third prize. Juror's special mentions went to Susan Jacobs of Cortland and Mark Scheuring of Salem.
Honorable mentions were awarded to Jack Carlton, Girard; Richard Fisher, Leetonia; Carol Gallo, Girard; Heidi Garwig, Youngstown; Thomas Harwood, Niles; Raymond Herr, East Palestine; Patrick Hyland, Youngstown; Carl Leet, Hubbard; Ed Lockett, Youngstown; Jeffrey S. Piper, Youngstown; Aaron Powell, Youngstown; Daniel Shields, Canfield; Elizabeth Testa, Youngstown; and Joy White, Warren.
Visitors can see the exhibition in the MacIntosh, Hynes-Finnegan and Davis galleries on the second level.
