Cookie Table Tradition Feb. 8 at Tyler History Center
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Looking to surpass the 7,000 treats it served at the inaugural Cookie Table & Cocktails fundraiser, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society is preparing for the second annual event 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 8.
The purpose is to raise funds for new exhibits that will be installed at the Tyler History Center here, site of the fundraiser.
The event is organized by the Young Leaders Advisory Board, a group within the society composed of members between the ages of 21 and 50. “[The advisory board] wanted to create a signature fundraiser to support the Tyler History Center campaign, and we decided that the cookie table was the perfect way to do that," said Frank Rulli, event chairman and president of the board, in a prepared statement. "Not only does it celebrate a unique Mahoning Valley tradition, it also highlights our area’s diverse cultures and food connoisseurs. The entries in the cookie contest were spectacular, and we anticipate even tougher competition this time around.”
Coming on board as Cookie Table & Cocktails title sponsor is The Waypoint Group of Morgan Stanley, Canfield.
“I joined the [historical society] board of directors two years ago and have been impressed with the extent of its collections as well as the caliber of its outreach programs," said Scott Zoldan, Waypoint Group first vice president and branch manager. "My business partner, Jeff Barone, and I wanted to support this event because we strongly believe in the organization’s mission. and we heard how good it was last year, especially the cookies.”
Billed as having a “fun and frivolous wedding reception atmosphere” replete with music, dancing, appetizers, beverages, and an extraordinary cookie table, Cookie Table & Cocktails is looking to recruit more event sponsors, donations for its silent auction, and cookie bakers.
Sponsorship levels, which offer varying degrees of publicity and complimentary tickets, are wedding reception sponsor $1,000, wedding dance sponsor $500, bouquet sponsor $250, honeymoon sponsor $100, and guest book sponsor $25 to $75. The deadline is Jan. 24.
Items also are needed for the silent auction. Among the donations to date are a Keurig coffeemaker basket, framed photos of historic Mahoning Valley sites, wine baskets and a behind-the-scenes tour of the society archives and Arms Family Museum. Amateur and professional cookie bakers must submit an application; number of bakers is limited to 60, so those interested should apply as soon as possible.
