Chamber Schedules Oct. 1 Forum on JEDDs
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will host a forum, “Joint Economic Development Districts 101: How JEDDS can pay off for your community and spur economic growth,” at 10 a.m. Oct. 1.
Municipal elected officials and government employees from Trumbull and Mahoning counties are invited to attend the session in the Liberty Township administration building.
Sarah Boyarko, chamber vice president for economic development, says the two-hour forum is offered to explain how JEDDs are formed and operate and their potential to spur economic development the Mahoning Valley.
Featured speakers are Tom Pascarella, city administrator of Tallmadge, and Pat Sauner, its community development director. Tallmadge has formed a JEDD with Brimfield Township that has benefited both communities. They will offer their experience with their agreement and take questions from the audience.
Pascarella, who grew up in Girard, has had a long career as a professor of public administration at Kent State University and Hiram College. He is an expert in local government collaboration and efficiencies, Boyarko says.
Also speaking are Enzo Cantalamessa, Warren director of safety services, and Phil Pegg, a Vienna Township trustee. Earlier this year Warren and Vienna Township agreed work together on a JEDD to garner resources to bring a TV assembly plant to Vienna. That project ended up going to South Carolina.
The forum is free, but the chamber requests that those interested in attending make reservations by calling Mandy Shina at 330 744 2131, ext. 32.
