Carol Potter Named CEO of Better Business Bureau
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Better Business Bureau serving Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull Counties today announced that Carol H. Potter has been named its president and CEO. She replaces Patricia Rose, who retired Jan. 1 after serving 18 years as the nonprofit agency's president.
Potter says she "will work to support the BBB’s mission of upholding high standards for ethical marketplace behavior."
The BBB's chairman, David Coy, said in a prepared statement that Potter "will certainly help take the BBB to even greater heights. Her passion for her new position and her desire to serve local consumers and businesses is key to our continued success.”
Before her selection as the BBB's new CEO, Potter served on the organization's board of directors.
Most recently, she was the financial development and marketing director for the YMCA of Youngstown. During her tenure at the YMCA, she led the Y's support campaign, which raised a record-breaking $501,000. She served on the YMCA's senior leadership team, directed financial development and implemented the association’s marketing and membership plans.
“The Better Business Bureau has been instrumental in building trust in our marketplace since 1974," Potter said in her prepared statement. "The Valley is experiencing tremendous growth opportunities in diverse areas. The BBB plays a critical role as a trusted intermediary between consumers and businesses that promotes best practices for fairness and honesty. I am dedicated to maintaining this trust to ensure continued progress in economic development in our Valley.”
In her career, Potter has served as campaign director for the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, where she secured funds for the restoration of the Valley’s first regional history and learning facility. She also served as the development and marketing director for Mill Creek MetroParks. With Mill Creek MetroParks, Potter was able to obtain funding to purchase wetlands and wildlife habitats, worked to have Mill Creek Park on the National Register of Historic Places and to restore the Volney Rogers Memorial Statue. She also co-authored the photo history Historic Mill Creek Park, which earned the Ohio Park & Recreation Association’s highest award of distinction for publications.
Potter currently serves as a trustee for the Cardinal Joint Fire District. She is member of the Leadership Mahoning Valley class of 2003 and the Mahoning Valley Local Government Leadership Academy class of 2011. She belongs to the Junior League of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley Historical Society. She is past president of the Boardman Civic Association and was a founding member of the People for MetroParks.
Potter holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Ohio Wesleyan University. She resides in Canfield with her husband, John.
