BPW to Honor McGarry as Woman of the Year
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Liz McGarry, director of development at Hospice of the Valley, has been selected as the Youngstown Business & Professional Women's Club Woman of the Year. She will be honored at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Antone's Banquet Center in Boardman.
McGarry was chosen based on the success of her fundraising for many volunteer organizations throughout the Valley, including Second Harvest Foodbank, American Heart Association, the Youngstown Symphony Guild, but especially her efforts at Hospice of the Valley, said Tracie Schmidt, president of YBPW. “Liz’s passion and dedication to helping those with needs and her commitment to making the Valley a great place to live is why YBPW has chosen her as the 2013 Woman of the Year,” she said in a prepared statement.
Since 2001, McGarry has worked diligently to raise monies for inpatient facilities for the terminally ill. Her efforts have raised more than $7 million and resulted in the opening of sites throughout the Mahoning Valley and western Pennsylvania.
The ceremonies when McGarry will be saluted, underwritten by Denise Debartolo York, will feature Patricia M. Sweeney. Commissioner of the Mahoning County Health Department, as keynote speaker.
Tickets are $45 and all proceeds go to the Dr. Anne McMahon Scholarship fund. For reservations, call Sandra Barger at 330 518 5383.
