YSU Named Tree Campus USA for 4th Year
Monday, June 10, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown State University has been named a Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the fourth consecutive year. YSU’s tree population of nearly 2,000 is composed of 79 species that represent 49 genera and has an estimated value of $2.2 million.
Harvest for Hunger Campaign Raises $81,618
Monday, June 10, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- This year’s Harvest for Hunger Campaign raised $81,618 and collected more than 21 tons of food to feed families in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties, Mike Iberis announced.
Iberis is executive director of the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. The fundraiser is a month-long drive in March and April to replenish food supplies for summer when donations tend to taper off and the need increases for nutritious food for children.

“Our plans with this facility are to continue moving it forward,” reports Joe DeLullo, vice president of VEC Inc., Girard. VEC is the parent of Evets Oil & Gas Construction Services, which operates a pipe fabrication plant in Hubbard. “A lot of what is going to be happening in the Utica shale will drive any expansion plans we have.”
Dart Trucking Principals Found Guilty of Fraud
Friday, June 07, 2013CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A federal judge has found two executives of a Columbiana County trucking company guilty on two counts related to a $3.6 million check-kiting scheme that authorities say occurred between October 27, 2007 and February 2010.
U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Ohio Dan Polster found Timothy Kephart, age 54, of Morrisdale, Pa., CEO of Dart Trucking Co., and its chief financial officer, Mark Michael, 55, of Clearfield, Pa., guilty on one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and one count of bank fraud related to the scheme.

The event, which took place in New York, was co-hosted by Arianna Huffington and Mika Brzezinski. Panel discussions took place all day with a series of topics and panelists “dedicated to redefining success beyond the male-dominated model of sleep-deprivation and burnout,” states the Huffington Post.
Ryan is quoted as remarking, “Maybe we need a men’s conference.”
City Officials Seek to Sell or Demolish Masters Building
Friday, June 07, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The city plans to seek a reassessment and revaluation of the former Masters Tuxedo building, a step toward possibly selling the property.
The 23,690-square-foot building, located at 3600 Market St. and built in 1950, originally was the former home of Paul Morris Sporting Goods. The property, which also has a bowling alley located in the structure, became part of the city’s land bank in late 2010.

Based on a report released by the Society of Actuaries earlier this year, the Ohio Department of Insurance estimates this increase will average 88%.
