HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Foreign Direct Investment Association has named Pennsylvania this year’s “Destination of the Future for Energy Intensive Industries,” Gov. Tom Corbett announced Monday.
The award is based on the commonwealth’s actively executing strategies to support foreign companies’ direct investment in the energy sector.
Pennsylvania ranks second among the states in electricity generation and nuclear production, fourth in coal production and has become the second-largest producer of natural gas. The Keystone State has become a net exporter of electricity and natural gas.
Pennsylvania has also received recognition for the governor's Energy=Jobs plan, the commonwealth's first statewide energy plan. As governor, Corbett outlined core concepts to extract Pennsylvania's vast resources of energy to further reduce energy costs and spur investment, industry development and create jobs, his press office said. "There are more than 200,000 people working in jobs either created or made more secure by Pennsylvania's energy industry," Corbett said in a prepared statement.
