Friday, November 21, 2014VIENNA, Ohio -- The Air Force Reserve’s 910th Airlift Wing is scheduled to welcome Ohio’s U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown for an installation visit Monday.
During the visit, Brown will meet with wing leadership, take a windshield tour of the installation, visit the 910th’s avionics shop, view one of the unit’s modular aerial spray systems and walk through one of the wing’s C-130H Hercules tactical cargo transport aircraft. The YARS visit will be hosted 910th Airlift Wing commander Col. James Dignan.
Brown’s office requested the visit to meet with YARS leadership and discuss his legislation to ensure upgrades are made to Ohio's Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard C-130 fleet by 2020 to meet federal and international standards.
The C-130H Hercules is the U.S. military’s primary tactical cargo transport aircraft. Aircrews flying the C-130 have provided humanitarian assistance, precision airdrop and tactical airlift missions across the globe for more than four decades. Because of Federal Aviation Administration and international airspace regulatory constraints, the fleet will be largely inoperable unless major updates are made by 2020.
In addition to outlining his bill that would allow the Air Force to use a less expensive communication and navigation overhaul without sacrificing safety and effectiveness, the YARS visit gives Ohio’s senior senator an up-close look at the 910th’s mission and assets.
Dignan said the wing welcomes this opportunity with the senator.
“We are pleased Sen. Brown is able to take time from his busy schedule to visit YARS,” Dignan said. “We look forward to showing the senator and his staff what makes us the best small installation in the Air Force and what we bring to the table for national security and defense.”
