WARREN, Ohio -- The American Red Cross of the Mahoning Valley is seeking nominations for its 2012 Acts of Courage Awards. Local residents are encouraged to nominate individuals whose lifesaving actions are courageous and deserving of special recognition.
As a community leader in emergency preparedness and response, the American Red Cross annually presents the Acts of Courage Awards to those residents of the Mahoning Valley who have acted courageously and selflessly in a time of emergency, said Karen Conklin, executive director. Often at great risk and sacrifice to their own personal safety, comfort, and well-being, these otherwise ordinary individuals have acted in a heroic manner by reaching out to help others in times of greatest need.
The heroic event may have happened anywhere, but must have occurred between April 1, 2011, and April 1 of this year, Conklin said.
Because their actions embody the ideals, principles and purpose of the Red Cross to prepare for and respond to emergencies, the recipients of the Acts of Courage Award will be honored during a special reception and dinner hosted by the Red Cross on June 14. Nominees must reside or be employed in Mahoning or Trumbull County, and the deadline for nominations is May 1.
