Traficant Critically Injured in Accident at Greenford Farm

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Former U.S. Rep. James Traficant is being treated in the intensive care unit at St. Elizabeth Medical Center following an accident last night at his daughter’s farm in Greenford. He is said to be in critical condition.
A farm tractor he was driving reportedly hit an object that caused it to overturn and trap the former congressman. According to news accounts, Traficant was administered CPR by emergency responders from Goshen Township. He was taken to Salem Regional Hospital then transferred to St. Elizabeth.
The farm, listed in his daughter’s name, was at the center of his bribery and corruption convictions in 2002. He served seven years in federal prison.
Hospital officials say under the provisions of privacy law, they cannot provide any information about the former congressman’s condition.
This morning the office of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-Ohio 13, issued a statement from the congressman, who served as an intern in Traficant’s office while he was attending college. "I am saddened to hear this news about former Congressman Traficant. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” Ryan said.
