Johnson Named to House Science, Space Committee
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson (R-16) today announced that he has been selected by the House Republican Steering Committee to service on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, which is chaired by Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas.
Johnson noted in a prepared statement released by his office that his appointment enables him to have a voice regarding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's "scientific justification for rules affecting Eastern and Southeastern Ohio."
The congressman, a vocal critic of what he calls President Obama's "war on coal" apparently was referring to the EPA's regulation of the coal industry, a leading employer in Ohio's 6th congressional district.
“I am honored to be chosen by Chairman Lamar Smith and the House Republican Steering Committee to serve on the Science, Space, and Technology Committee," he said. "Having spent 26 years in the United States Air Force, and having worked over 30 years in the information technology industry, I know first-hand the benefits of technological innovation. I am looking forward to working with the committee to advance their goals, and I believe my IT background will allow me to add value to the committee. I also look forward to the oversight role the committee has over the EPA’s scientific justification for rules affecting Eastern and Southeastern Ohio,” Johnson said.
Johnson will serve on the Subcommittee on Research and Technology and the Subcommittee on Oversight. He will continue to serve on the House Energy & Commerce Committee.
