Democrats Tout Poll Showing Kasich, FitzGerald Tied
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio Democrats are touting a new poll showing Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald in a dead heat with Gov. John Kasich, and state Sen. Nina Turner edging ahead of Secretary of State Jon Husted.
The Public Policy Polling survey (CLICK HERE) showed Kasich, a Republican seeking election to a second four-year term, tied with FitzGerald at 44%, with 11% unsure who they would vote for. The same poll puts Turner at 45% to Husted’s 44%, with 12% not sure.
In a statement about the results, the Ohio Democratic Party said it is “no coincidence” that the Kasich campaign was going on the air with advertising, having seen the same results the Democrats were seeing.
“Governor Kasich has had weeks of horrible media attention on everything from his attacks on voting rights, his discriminatory views on marriage equality, and his tax shift onto the middle class,” the party said in a news release. “This race is a dead heat, and Ohioans know that John Kasich doesn’t share our values, and his policies aren’t working for Ohio families.”
While generally accurate, Public Policy Polling is described by political reporters as leaning Democratic.
The survey of 1,015 Ohio voters was taken April 14-15
