Sharon Regional Announces Reductions in Staffing
SHARON, Pa. -- Sharon Regional Health System will reduce staff by approximately 87 full-time equivalent positions, the system announced Wednesday.
The “staff adjustments” will include personnel in administrative, technical, clerical and support roles, with what is described in a Sharon Regional news release as a “limited number of clinical or direct patient care positions affected.” The system, which has a workforce of more than 1,100 FTEs now, is “committed to effective and efficient operations to ensure our long-term viability,” Sharon Regional spokesman Ed Newmeyer said in a prepared statement emailed to media outlets.
The announcement follows Sharon Regional’s acquisition earlier this year by Community Health Systems Inc. of Franklin, Tenn.
“Over the past six months, we have reviewed how patients use our hospital and services, the reimbursement we receive, and the demographics of our community. Our inpatient volumes have declined in recent years and we are being paid less so we are making changes to operate more efficiently, reduce costs and provide the most needed services,” Newmeyer said.
“We value the skills and service of each individual and regret that the reductions are necessary,” he added. The statement did not specify how many individuals would be affected by the layoffs.
