STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 in the public library here on how a pipeline sought by Texas Eastern Transmission LLP might affect water quality in five counties including Columbiana County, the agency announced Monday.
Texas Eastern proposes to build a 75.8-mile pipeline and 75-foot construction right-of-way in five eastern Ohio through Hanover, Franking and Washington townships in Columbiana County.
The proposed open-cut pipeline project would affect 10.4 acres of wetlands and 1,930 linear feet of streams. Other areas involved are East Township in Carroll County; Brush and Mount Pleasant townships in Jefferson County; Colerain and York townships in Belmont County; and Switzerland Township in Monroe Count).
The quality of the water affected would not be permitted to exceed state standards set to protect people’s health and the environment, officials said.
Written comments are considered equally with oral testimony presented at the hearing, the EPA says. Written comments may be submitted until 5 p.m. Nov. 25 to Ohio EPA-DSW, Attn: Permits Processing Unit, P.O. Box 1049, Columbus, Ohio 43216-1049.
