OCCHA Begins Search to Replace Executive Director
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Youngstown Organizacion Civica Y Cultural Hispana Americana plans to hire a new executive director to replace Mary Isa Garayua, who will retire this spring after more than 15 years of service.
“The hiring of this executive director will ensure OCCHA’s vital place in the Mahoning Valley," said Susan Maruca, a member of the OCCHA board of trustees and chairman of the hiring committee. "This organization serves as a cultural and educational center for Hispanics in the Mahoning Valley. We will look to employ an executive director who can create job opportunities, develop educational programs and celebrate this community’s cultural traditions."
The executive director is responsible for supervising staff, budget development and management, grant writing and overseeing daily operations, Maruca said.
"OCCHA is not just a valuable resource for the Hispanic community," she added. "In fact, it serves all minority groups offering social services such as translation, counseling, technical assistance, emergency assistance, work programs for both adults and youth. Health services include screening and information on cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, blood pressure, and health fairs and workshops. Employment services include job counseling, placement and training. Adult literacy education is offered Youth educational services include tutoring, career orientation, mentoring, counseling, bilingual program, home and school visits, informational workshops, and beginners computer literacy."
Qualifications for the position of executive director include:
- Minimum of associates degree or equivalent experience in business administration, or nonprofit management.
- Minimum of five years in an executive position for a nonprofit organization.
- Skills in planning, budgeting, grant management and organization.
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
