Trumbull United Way Honors Donors, Elects Officers
WARREN, Ohio -- United Way of Trumbull County recognized volunteers and contributors, and reported on the past year’s activities at its 89th annual meeting April 17 at Leo’s Ristorante in Howland Township. John A. Guarnierei, vice president of Albert Guarnieri & Co., was elected 2012-2013 chairman of the United Way board of directors.
At the meeting, Jerry J. McGee, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Seven Seventeen Credit Union and Campaign 2011 chairman, noted that the campaign raised more than $1.046 million and resulted in growth across almost all sectors as 34 firms and organizations achieved increases of at least 10%, seven generated increases of 25% or more, and 23 local organizations conducted their initial campaigns on behalf of United Way’s network of service providers.
McGee praised corporate and labor union support at the top four accounts: RG Steel, Delphi Packard Electric, General Motors Lordstown, and RTI International Metals.
Guarnieri received a special award for exemplary leadership as chairman of the board and presented a “Distinguished Service Award” to McGee for his campaign leadership.Other voluntary service awards were presented to Cathy Saluga, director of managed care, Humility of Mary Health Partners, for leading the community investment committee; and Carlotta R. Sheets, supervisor, human resources and communications for the Trumbull Educational Service Center, for chairing the marketing committee.
McGee presented 73 individuals, companies, employee groups, and labor unions with awards in recognition of their significant accomplishments. United Way volunteers and staff were recognized for their dedicated service, including Sallie Daugherty, director of finance and administration for 30 years of service. Recently deceased United Way volunteers, including Randall S. Evans, treasurer and past chair of many committees, were recognized with a moment of silence.
Gold, Silver and Bronze awards to employee groups for attainment of significant levels of contributions. The highest campaign honors went to Jack Gibson Construction Co., which received the “Campaign Chairman’s Award” for attainment of the highest percentage of employee giving potential, and to Huntington National Bank for achievement of the highest percentage increase based upon employee giving potential.
Special recognition was given to Diane Sauer Chevrolet for a donation of a two-year lease as part of the “Cruze into Spring” United Way campaign promotion, and St. Joseph Health Center for sponsorship of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers home run promotion. Also honored were LensCrafters for its “Gift of Sight” program, Huntington National Bank for its “Stuff the Bus” school supplies program, and Buffalo Wild Wings for its “March Madness” fundraiser. Special awards also were bestowed to participants in the United Way’s initial “Great Pumpkin 5K”, including Kent State University – Trumbull, Trumbull County Sheriff’s Reserve Unit, Outback Steakhouse, Giant Eagle – Jamestown Village, Albert Guarnieri & Co., and HandsOn Volunteer Network. Also, 51 area merchants that participated in the Caring Club program and offered discounts for personal contributors of $120 or more were recognized.
Elected officers and board members on April 17 include Guarneri, chairman; Fran H. Cunningham, realtor, William Zamarelli Realtors, first vice chairman; McGree, vice president and chief financial officer of Seven Seventeen Credit Union, second vice chairman; Evelyn H. McGhee, retired, Social Security Administration, secretary; and Robert T. Nemeth, executive vice president of Stanwade Metal Products, treasurer. Donald W. Emerson Jr., executive director, Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority, will serve as immediate past chairman, and Thomas J. Krysiek serves as president and chief executive officer.
Chairman of standing committees include Michael J. O'Brien, former mayor of Warren, Fund Development; W. Dallas Woodall, partner at Letson, Griffith, Woodall, Lavell and Rosenberg, Bylaws; Sheets, supervisor of human resources and communications, Trumbull County Educational Service Center, Communications; Cathy Saluga, director of managed care at Humility of Mary Health Partners, Community Investment; Nemeth, Finance-Administration; Emerson, Nominating; and Donald E. Moore, vice president, Midwest Trumco Insurance Agency, Planning.
Elected to the board of directors, the United Way’s governing body, during the annual meeting were: William C. Beinecke, McGee, Evelyn H. McGhee, Moore, John L. Pogue and Woodall. Elected to the board of trustees were Beinecke, Robert Dean Jr., Robert Kubiak, Jerry McGee,
Evelyn McGhee, Moore, John Myers, Saluga, Sheets, John Sheets, Shelly Taylor Odille, Robert Wolleben and Woodall.
