Pizza Challenge Saturday at Eastwood Expo Center
WARREN, Ohio -- Area pizza lovers still can sign up for a pizza-eating contest that will take place during the Warren Rotary Club’s “Slice of the Valley” pizza challenge Saturday at the Eastwood Expo Center, Niles.
People can register for the contest, sponsored by Pizza Works, Howland, by going to the event website www.SliceOfTheValley.com or calling 330 369 1192. The pizza challenge runs from 4:30 to 8 p.m., with the pizza-eating contest scheduled for 6 p.m. The winner will receive a trophy and cash prize.
The number of area pizza shops competing for bragging rights has reached 18 with the addition of the Golden Dawn Restaurant, Youngstown.
Those attending the pizza challenge will vote on the People’s Choice Award while celebrity judges will decide the Judge’s Choice award. Celebrity judges include former Cleveland Browns player Travis Tucker; Stan Boney, WYTV news anchor; and Fred Young, world-renowned taste tester from Chicago.
“We are looking forward to a very successful and highly competitive pizza event. It should be a lot of fun,” said Rob Berk, Warren Rotary Club president. Proceeds will be used to fund improvements at Warren Interfaith Park on Warren’s southeast side.
The event also includes a Chinese auction, music and a 50/50 raffle.
Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 and under. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased on the event website or at the door.
