Penn State Shenango Hosts Technology/Career Expo
SHARON, Pa. -- The community is invited to attend the 2012 Penn State Shenango Technology/Career Expo March 20 through 22. The expo will be held in the Shenango Avenue auditorium.
The three-day expo will include workshops on careers in allied health, business/information, sciences and technology and human service. The public is invited to participate in one or all of the three-day workshops. No reservations are necessary.
On March 20, Allied Health Careers will be the focus of the first two workshops: Headhunters and Traveling Assignments and Medical Coding and Digital Documentation. At 11:30 a.m., Brent Harrolle, vice president of RecruitingMed Travelers, will speak via Skype on the benefits and risks of medical travel assignments and credentialing across state lines. At 12:30 p.m., Steven Presement, president of Practice Perfect EMR+Management Software will demonstrate digital record keeping and medical software procedures.
On March 21, Business and IST Careers will be discussed during the next two workshops: Negotiating Salaries and Benefits and Computer Forensics. At 4 p.m., Larry Gorski, senior vice president, human services at First National Bank, will present “best practices” and techniques to negotiate difficult and/or sensitive topics with prospective employers. At 5 p.m., a Pennsylvania State Patrol representative will speak on identifying, preserving, recovering, analyzing, and presenting facts about computer data.
On March 22, Human Service Careers will be highlighted during the final two workshops: Smart APS to Support the Client and Recognizing Signs of Domestic/Sexual Violence and Mandated Reporting. At noon, Kristan Miller, a HDFS student and a Penn State Fayette community inclusion specialist, Autism Education and Research Institute, will speak about her current project involving autism and dementia research and program development using Smart Aps. At 1 p.m., Nikki Cadman and Jackie Fazio, AWARE specialists, will speak on the signs, symptoms, and services for victims of abuse and the process of properly reporting suspected abuse.
