Lawrence County United Way Reaches 50% of Goal
NEW CASTLE, Pa. – The United Way of Lawrence County reports it has reached half of its $435,000 campaign goal. The United Way chapter raises funds for 19 nonprofit agencies that provide more than 50 programs in the area.
The public affairs division, headed by Janice Dougherty, reported $8,071 for the division, which includes the county courthouse and nonprofit agencies. The professional division, headed by Amy Plyler, Dr. Joe Ross and Jason Medure, reported $6906 which included local attorney’s dentists, physicians and other professionals.
Led by Mayor Sherie Babb and Kim Christofferson, the New Wilmington division reported $4,609 from local residents along with Westminster College. The retail division, headed by Lynda Jaworski and Doug McIltrot, reported $3230 from local businesses. Country Fair stores donated $581 by selling placards at their stores.
Gayle Young, executive director of Lawrence County thanked the volunteers for a job well done in the campaign. The campaign is crucial to the many agencies that are doing more with less funding as well as personnel to meet the needs of Lawrence County families, she said.
Engineering drawings for the Cascade Park swimming pool, which United Way continues to collect funds for, will be shared with the community shortly, officials reported. Volunteers also were reminded that the United Way Blanket Drive is underway. The blankets will be distributed to non-profit agencies in the community and they will distribute them to families in need.
