Kasich Touts Job Numbers, Valley in Address

John Kasich touted improved employment figures and the state's resurgence in manufacturing, including the contribution played by companies operating in the Youngstown-Warren area, as he delivered the annual State of the State Address. Ohio is the No. 1 job creator in the Midwest and ranks ninth in the nation, up from nearly the bottom just a year ago, Kasich boasted. "It's about time because we're a powerhouse here in Ohio," he said.

Friday, February 03, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Area Democratic lawmakers pounced on this morning's positive jobs numbers to champion President Barack Obama's policies. The U.S. Labor Department announced earlier today that nonfarm payroll employment rose by 243,000 in January, and the unemployment rate decreased to 8.3%, down 0.2 of a percentage point from December.
Counties Oppose, to Study Turnpike Sale
Friday, February 03, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Local governments fear what will happen to northern Ohio's township, city and county roads and the condition of the Ohio Turnpike if a plan by Gov. John Kasich to sell or lease the turnpike comes to fruition, representatives said Thursday.
County commissioners and executives from five counties in Northeast Ohio banded together on the issue and announced they will put resources into studying the effects of privatizing the James W. Shocknessy Ohio Turnpike on local economies, roads and the turnpike itself.
