Kacmar Reflects on Changes in Senior Care

34 LPNs to Lose Jobs at Trumbull Memorial Hospital
Wednesday, August 20, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Friday marks the last day of work at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for 34 licensed practical nurses whose jobs will be lost in what the hospital says is a “transition to a nurse staffing model that uses registered nurses and nursing assistants.”
The Service Employees International Union, which represents 250 workers at TMH, says it filed a grievance against the hospital for violating the contract. SEIU District 11 has also filed unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board against ValleyCare of Ohio, which operates TMH.
ValleyCare: Data Stolen about Local Patients
Monday, August 18, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- ValleyCare Health System of Ohio today reported that "limited personal identification data belonging to some patients who were seen at physician practices and clinics affiliated with ValleyCare Health System of Ohio over the past five years was transferred out of our organization in a criminal cyber attack by a foreign-based intruder."
Hackers Steal Data from Community Health Systems
Monday, August 18, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Community Health Systems Inc., which operates four hospitals in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys, announced this morning that it was the victim of a data breach targeting nonmedical patient identification data.
CHS, based in Franklin, Tenn., confirms that its computer network had been hit in April and June, the company reported in a filing today with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. CHS operates ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, which operates three hospitals in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, and Sharon Regional Health System in Sharon, Pa.
