SBA Offers Entrepreneurship Training for Veterans
Wednesday, March 21, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The U.S. Small Business Administration and partners are hosting a series of free training events in northern Ohio this month. The training is open to all veterans, current or recently discharged military, National Guard and Reserve members and family.
Locally, the date is 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 26 at the Austintown Public Library.
KSU-Trumbull to Offer 2-Year Veterinary Degree
Wednesday, March 21, 2012CHAMPION TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The Trumbull Campus of Kent State University will offer an associate’s degree in veterinary technology beginning with the fall semester, Dean Robert Sines says.
With the program, KSU Trumbull will become the third institution in Ohio to offer an accredited veterinary technology curriculum.
Graduates can be licensed by the state of Ohio as a registered veterinary technician. They will be better prepared to work in routine veterinary laboratory work and clinical procedures, Sines says.
Grove City College Gets Robotics Grant
Monday, March 19, 2012GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grable Foundation has awarded Grove City College a $10,000 grant from to fund the Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology Robotics competition. The 2012 Wolverine BEST Robotics Competition kicks off Sept. 8 in the college's Pew Fine Arts Center.
Kent State Raises Tuition, Adds Degree Programs
Friday, March 16, 2012KENT, Ohio -- Trustees of Kent State University have approved a 3.5% increase in undergraduate and graduate tuition at the university's eight campuses. Also approved at a recent meeting were establishment of a College of Podiatric Medicine and northeastern Ohio's first bachelor's degree in insurance to be initially offered at the Salem campus.
Manufacturing Institute Expert to Speak at Workforce Summit
Thursday, March 15, 2012LISBON, Ohio -- Brent Weil, senior director for education and workforce at the Manufacturing Institute in Washington, D.C., will speak at the Oh-Penn Manufacturing Workforce Summit April 12. His topic, “Closing the Manufacturing Skills Gap: Regional Economic Development and the NAM-Endorsed Skills Certification System,” will address workforce issues that currently impact the future growth of the region’s manufacturers.
