State Confirms Relationship Between Brine Injection Wells, Earthquakes
Friday, March 09, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Department of Natural Resources this morning released a preliminary report that concludes the series of 12 earthquakes that shook the Youngstown area that confirmed "the relationship between the Northstar 1 Class II disposal well and 12 Youngstown area earthquakes." The well identified by the agency was operated by D&L Energy at its Salts Springs Road headquarters; operations were shutdown in January when the state imposed a moratorium pending an investigation into the cause of the earthquakes.
ODNR Issues Five New Permits for Utica Wells
Thursday, March 08, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The end of February brought the number of horizontal drilling permits in Columbiana County for Chesapeake Exploration LLC to 19, while new permits were issued for two exploration companies new to the liquids-rich Utica shale play in eastern Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Chesapeake’s latest permit will allow the Oklahoma-based gas exploration company to drill a new well on the Reed property in Columbiana’s Elk Run Township, the township’s first drill site.
So far, Chesapeake has drilled four well sites in Columbiana County.

Chesapeake Responds to Critical Rolling Stone Article

Says the company’s vice president of communications, Jim Gipson, “Portions of the article were most egregious in their misrepresentations or inaccuracies of our company.”
